"I find it discomforting to know that the debate is still alive,
as to a safe distance from which to witness the end of the world"

The Age of Woodsheds and Bunkers
dB Dave Dennison - Lead guitar on...
Mark Gunson - Lead guitar on....
Shaun Marshall - Pedal Steel, Lap Steel on...
Jim Norton - everything else
Most of these tracks were written and arranged, mangled and strangled, by Jim Norton, from a bunker, a garage,
and an occasional woodshed. He used a MacBook Pro, guitar, bass, key, harmonica, drum or horn patch.
But more importantly, each track features a lead instrumental, supplied by one of the other three.
Norton recorded and arranged the foundation tracks
in Garageband before sending to the others by email. Then Mark or Dave would lay down their part and
email them back. Generally, these parts are identified
as the noodly glue that holds everything else together.
In order to finally capture that incindiary "buzz-saw
slide guitar sound" the studio was packed up and transported to Fourth St. in San Rafael, which is
where Marshall keeps it most of the time.
This mashup of styles, coupled with a prominent use
of samples and loops helps to achieve a relative lo-fi production level, akin to a musical five-second rule.
It might be worth noting that such an album can be
made without actually being together in the same room.
The samples used on fallout shelter are from The Atomic Cafe and feature such voices as Richard Nixon, LBJ and
Dwight D. Eisenhower
Thanks to garageband, yahoo and line6 for their
unwitting support.
